Shop with me! Spring-Summer 2020 Trends for your Gyaru Wardrobe (Part 1)

Fashion is cyclical: trends come and go, continually reinvented. The bell bottoms that reigned during my childhood are finally making a tentative comeback. The puff sleeves that I thought looked ridiculous in my mother's 80s photos are now delicate and elegant again. It is quite easy, therefore, to look trendy with second-hand items, by experimenting with our styling of them.

With this idea in mind, I have put together several outfits inspired by different gyaru substyles, such as old school or agejo, that follow current trends with pieces selected from sites such as Mercari and Fril. I hope I can inspire you to give new life to old clothes!

According to fashion magazines such as Vogue UK and Harper's Bazaar, these are some of the big trends coming for the Spring-Summer season:

1) Polka Dots (水玉)

Elegant and understated, polka dots are back in mostly monochromatic ensembles. I love the subtle mixing of different sized patterns to give depth to the outfits!

2) That 70s Denim (デニム)
The double denim trend is here to stay, thanks to a super cool 70s revival. I have tried to imitate the runway look by pairing pieces in similar dark denim fabrics and adding tan accessories.

3) Sheer Fabrics
Sheer fabrics have inundated the stores since last season. My favourite has to be the combination of stiff, structured organza and puff sleeves! In my search for items similar to this trend, I could mostly just find white pieces in a floaty materials however. That Lis Lisa dress is a total steal!

4) Pastels
Lilac, mint, baby blue, orange sherbet, soft pink... making pastel shades pop by pairing them with each other is such a cute way to make your outfits extra playful this summer!

I really recommend searching for items for yourself as there are soo many available that I couldn't fit all in! Part of the fun of second hand shopping is hunting down the perfect item <3

I hope you enjoyed this post, and stayed tuned for Part 2! Featuring all the brighter trends such as tropical prints, neons, crotchet fabrics and more!
