My Gyaru Home! (Part 2)

Hello gals! This is Part 2 of my home series! I still cannot believe this happened, I feel like I won the lottery! You can read Part 1 here

The flat is a 3 bedroom facing south-west! Its a corner block so I have no neighbours around except downstairs, which makes it super quiet. The building is quite old, from the 70s, but that does have advantages... unlike more modern flats here, the walls are pretty solid and insulated, so when my partner and I are in different rooms we can't hear each other at all!

My initial optimistic plan was to clean out furniture we didn't want, get the hardwood floors revarnished and paint all the rooms in new colors all during the carnival break, so that we could move in quickly and more or less have a liveable flat. Of course with houses nothing goes to plan LOL 😂

So first thing that happened is that we failed the electricity inspection! The building IS old after all, so all the fuse boxes were burnt af. I got pretty annoyed with the sellers for failing to mention this, but well. The electrician ended up recommending we change the wiring in general to meet modern safety standards, which delayed the floor getting sanded and revarnished, which in turn made us move in while things were still upside down. Fun times were had!

💜 Living Room

Currently, and sometimes with some help of my partner and family I have:

1. Taken out all the nails and hooks on the walls and filled them in.

2. Taken all the electric radiators and filled the holes in.

3. Fixed a messy repair in one of the windows by filling the gaps and sanding the surface.

4. Changed all the plugs and light switches.

5. Sanded, stained and varnished bookshelves.

I copied my mum with the sofa 🙈 Its just soo comfy and you can order it in any color and material. She got it in a beautiful sky blue and leather-like texture, while I went for a sage green (the new millenial grey 😂) and a fabric texture.

Things left to do: 1) paint walls; 2) change TV furniture and table; 3) install ceiling fan; 4) get a dining table.

I still haven't decided what color to paint the walls. We bought a sage green but it might be too matchy-matchy with the sofa.... suggestions welcome!

💜 Guest Room

The guest room will be "my room". I like having my own space to keep my clothes, vanity and I'm very excited to go super gyaru in this room.

There was a bit of an incident with painting the ceiling because it wasn't done properly before, so as soon as I started priming it huge flakes of old paint kept coming down. In the end I have just sanded it and left it as it is and will probably get a professional to do it.

Currently, and sometimes with some help of my partner and family I have:

1. Taken out all the nails and hooks on the walls and filled them in.

2. Sanded the walls and ceiling and primed and painted them.

3. Put furniture together (this was done by my partner because I hate doing it. I prefer tackling the messy stuff!)

4. Changed all the plugs and light switches.

5. Installed the wall shoe rack.

Things that are left to do are: putting up lots of posters! And perhaps some shelving on top of my vanity for my plushies and mangas.

💜 Main Bedroom

This space is meant to be a second bedroom but we decided to make it our main, so that we can have a big office instead. We just use our bedroom for sleeping, so it makes sense for us to have a nice sunny office instead of a small cramped one.

Currently, and with some help of my partner I have:

1. Taken out all the nails and hooks on the walls and filled them in.

2. Sanded the walls and ceiling and primed and painted them.

3. Put PAX cupboard together (this was done by my partner because I hate doing it. I prefer tackling the messy stuff!)

4. Changed all the plugs and light switches.

5. Sanded, stained and varnished the bedside tables.

Things left to do: 1) sand, stain and varnish headboard; 2) install ceiling fan; 3) put up some art!

💜 Office

This is the "main" room that will be our office. We had our desks in an L layout in our rented home, so we want to do the same here and have a dedicated space to work and for our hobbies. The room also has a big balcony where I'm excited to have more plants and flowers!

Currently, and sometimes with some help of my partner and family I have:

1. Taken out all the nails and hooks in the walls and filled them in.

2. Filled and fixed the hole where the original window blind mechanism was.

3. Primed and painted the walls (my partner suggested the cutest mint color! The room looks like an ice cream haha).

4. Sanded, stained and varnished our desks. I bought large pine boards in Leroy Merlin and my partner put them together with IKEA legs. We are soo happy with the results!

5. Sanded, stained and varnished shelves from Astigarraga. I think they turned out cute although varnishing is HARD and I didn't do a perfect job tbh.

Things left to do are: 1) put up wall art; 2) install ceiling fan!

There's still loaaaads to do so I will continue updating each room in Part 3!

Thank you for reading! ~~Ran
